The Story So Far!!

7^th Meath Dunshaughlin Scout Group registered with Scout Association Ireland in February 1977 with a Cub pack and Scout troop.

Scouts provided a guard of honour for the laying of the foundations of the new church in 1982.

We initially met in St. Patrick’s Hall until 1980 / 1981 when a den was found in a prefab at the back of the old tech

After a period of time the prefab was rotten and they moved to another prefab until it was time for its demolition in 1996. At this point, all equipment was transferred to a shipping container in the GAA Pitch, Scouts met in the Pitch & Putt Club and Cubs met in St. Patrick’s Hall. This was to be temporary measure as the community centre was being built and there would be a storage facility and room that the Scouts and Cubs could use. 

There was, however, no storage facility provided so the equipment remained in the container in the GAA pitch until 2003 when they requested that it be moved. As there was nowhere in the village that we could move the container to, the equipment was removed from the container to one of the Scout Leaders’ shed as a temporary measure until March / April 2006

The equipment is now temporarily housed in a lock-up belonging to a local family.

In the Community Centre there was a large room overlooking the games hall that the Cubs, Scouts and later the Beavers used for weekly meetings until September 2003 when the Gym took over that room.

From the time the gym moved into the large room, the Scouts met in the Pitch & Putt Club and the Beavers & Cubs met in St. Patrick’s Hall. After meeting in virtually every venue in Dunshaughlin by now, Beavers, Cubs,Scouts and Venturers are now all meeting in St Seachnall’s N.S. and our new Beaver Colony meets in Gael Scoil na Ríthe. We are trying to secure a more permanent home for our sections and are always on the look-out for a suitable premises to establish a Scout Den (all suggestions would be greatly received by any of our Scouters!).

Now in 2012, as we celebrate 35 years of Community life in Dunshaughlin, our Scout Group is continuing to grow with 2 Beaver Colonies, a Cub Pack,  Scout Troop , Venturer and Rover Sections. We have over 100 youth members ranging in age from 6-26 years and we have almost 30 Scouters (ages not disclosed!!). 

Our aim for the future is to continue to grow and to provide a place where children of all ages and abililties can benefit from the wealth of experiences which Scouting has to offer.
